MONARCHS SLIP PAST PIRATES IN SHOOTOUT
PORTLAND, ME – Goaltender Adam Hauser blanked all four shootout snipers as the Manchester Monarchs slipped past the Portland Pirates 3-2 in a shootout in front of a crowd of 3,375 at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Friday night.

The Monarchs got on the board first with a goal from defenseman Brad Fast at 2:17 of the first period. Right wing Konstantin Pushkarev battled in the end boards and dug the puck out to Fast positioned in front of the net. Fast sent a shot in on Pirates goaltender Dieter Kochan for his third of the season. Center Matt Ryan also assisted on the goal to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead.

Defenseman Mark Ardelan made it 2-0 with a power play goal at 6:14 of the first period. Cycling the puck throughout the Pirates zone, right wing Brad Smyth passed the puck to left wing Noah Clarke who sent it to the right point where Ardelan blasted in his fourth of the season.

Pirates center Tim Brent cut the Monarchs lead in half with his 13th of the season at 19:57 of the first period. Just eight-seconds into the power play with Monarchs defenseman Richard Seeley in the box for tripping, right wing Dustin Penner threw the puck into the slot and onto the stick of Brent, who poked it past Hauser to make the score 2-1. Right wing Corey Perry also assisted on the power play goal.

With a scramble in front of the net, right wing Pierre Parenteau stole the puck and sent a backhander over Hauser and into the top left of the netting for his fourth of the season at 5:32. Center Igor Pohanka and defenseman Shane O'Brien assisted on the goal to tie the game at 2-2.

After a scoreless overtime, Hauser denied all four of the Pirates shooters and left wing Jeff Tambellini and Smyth converted for the Monarchs for their seventh shootout victory of the season.
