The Los Angeles Kings selected Drew Doughty, who is on stage with the Kings Co-Directors of Amateur Scouting Mark Yannetti and Michael Futa, with the second overall pick at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft in Ottawa.

The Kings have selected No. 1 overall once, selecting Rick Pagnutti in 1967, a draft which had just three players appear in the NHL: Serge Bernier, who was selected fifth overall by the Philadelphia Flyers and skated in 302 NHL games - including 101 with the Los Angeles Kings; J.-Bob Kelly, who was selected by Toronto 16th overall and went on to appear in 425 NHL games; and Al Karlander, taken 17th overall by Detroit and appeared in 212 games in the NHL.
