LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles Kings Senior Vice President/General Manager Dave Taylor, regarding the recent passing of former Kings General Manager George Maguire, issued the following statement today. Maguire was the third Kings general manager in franchise history and held that position from the 1977-78 season through January 30, 1984. During his tenure with the Kings, he was instrumental in drafting such players as Luc Robitaille, Taylor, Jay Wells, Mark Hardy, Larry Murphy, Jim Fox, Bernie Nicholls, Doug Smith and Garry Galley.
"The Los Angeles Kings are saddened by the loss of George Maguire. George was a colorful, one-of-a-kind personality who was an integral part of the Kings hockey club for a number of years. In addition, he helped direct the 1980-81 Kings club to a 99-point season which at the time was the second most in team history. Our condolences certainly go out to his family."
The Kings at this time do not have any additional details regarding Maguire's passing.
