Bud Holloway

This week we are highlighting the accomplishments of 21-year-old Kings offensive prospect Bud Holloway, who currently plays for the Kings ECHL affiliate Ontario Reign.  Sent to the Reign from Manchester on Feb. 18, Holloway has tallied nine points (7-2=9) in seven games with Ontario, including points in his first six games with the team.  On Feb. 26, Holloway lit the lamp three times for his first hat trick of the year, helping the team to a 4-2 win over the Phoenix RoadRunners.  The next night Holloway, a 6’ 1", 196-lb. left wing, found the back of the net twice more as the Ontario Reign fell to Phoenix at home.  To complete a stellar week, on Feb. 28, Holloway netted the game winner in a shootout against the Las Vegas Wranglers. Ontario now has 68 points (32-21-4) to take first in the Pacific Division.  Prior to moving to Ontario, Holloway posted 12 points (7-5=12) in 38 games with the Kings AHL affiliate Manchester Monarchs.

"Every player who turns pro has a little different timetable as far as their adjusting, "said Kings Coordinator of Player Development and Systems Integration Nelson Emerson. "For Bud, going to Ontario is the perfect thing for him.  Talking to Coach Karl down there, he really believes that the Reign is the right place for Bud because his confidence is at a very high level.  Bud has been able to go there, get excited about playing and work on a lot of the stuff that he needs to be able to do."

Drafted by the Kings in the third round (86th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, the native of Wapella, Saskatchewan, spent five seasons with the WHL Seattle Thunderbirds from 2003-08.  His last season in Seattle, Holloway had 83 points (43-40=83) in 70 games with a plus-36 rating and nine game-winning goals to tie for second in the WHL.  Holloway was named the Player of the Month for March 2008 after posting 16 points (11-5=16) with a plus-nine rating in nine games.  In 12 post-season games with Seattle, Holloway had 10 points (5-5=10) to tie for second on the team with fellow Kings prospect Thomas Hickey.

"We are really excited for him; he has a real step to his game and obviously feels very confident.  A bonus for him in Ontario rather than Manchester is the fact that he is going to be able to play a lot and in every different situation.  Karl has him playing on the power play and killing penalties, and that is much better for him.

"He can go down there, really work on his game and be excited about playing hockey."

Notable performances were given this week by several Los Angeles Kings prospects including Geordie Wudrick, who had three goals and three assists in three games with the WHL Swift Current Broncos. Kings goaltending prospect Daniel Taylor continues to impress in Manchester, improving to 7-2-1 in 10 games with the Monarchs.
