LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have assigned forward Tyler Toffoli to the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.
Toffoli, who turns 21 years old on Wednesday, has played in eight games for the Kings this season, his first in the NHL. He has recorded five points (2-3=5), a plus-three rating and two penalty minutes. He averaged 11:55 minutes per game and one of his goals came on the power-play.
On March 10, the Kings recalled Toffoli after he played in 55 regular season games with the Monarchs this season and recorded 48 points (28-20=48), 18 penalty minutes and a team-leading plus-20 rating. At the time of his recall his 28 goals led the Monarchs, all AHL rookie skaters, and that goal total also ranked second overall in the league. His 48 points were tied for first in the AHL among rookie skaters and rank second overall on his team.
Originally selected by the Kings in the second-round (47th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-1, 187-pound native of Scarborough, Ontario, last week Toffoli was named the winner of the Dudley (Red) Garrett Memorial Award as the AHL’s outstanding rookie for the 2012-13 season.
The Kings (25-14-5, 55 points) next play on Sunday at STAPLES Center versus Dallas at 6 p.m. The game will air on FOX Sports West -- including the pre-game show -- and KTLK AM 1150.
