ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign (7-4-0-0), defending Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL’s 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, earned their third consecutive win, second consecutive win at home, 5-2 over the Bakersfield Condors (3-6-1-0) before a crowd of 7,919 on Sunday afternoon for the Stater Bros. Charities Military Appreciation Game.
The Reign had a quiet first period with two penalties and zero goals. They weren’t able to convert either of the two power-play opportunities through the frame.
The second period had more action with the Reign getting on the board twice while on the power play. The Condors halved the lead with just 30 seconds left in the frame. Colton Yellow Horn scored the third consecutive first goal of the game. While on the power play, Paul Mara fired a shot from the blue which was then passed by Dan DaSilva to Yellow Horn who got it past Condors goaltender Brian Stewart’s blocker side. Derek Couture would strike again on the power play, slamming in a bouncing puck off a long shot from CJ Stretch. Mara earned his second assist of the night on the play. The Condors cut the Reign’s lead in half with a power-play goal from Tyler Hendrikx with 30 seconds on the clock.
Bakersfield’s Hendrikx tied the game 2-2 with a laserbeam shot from the top of the right circle. Not to be outdone, the Reign answered less than one minute later with Kyle Kraemer’s first goal of the season. Stretch set it up for him and with a great move through the Condors defense, Kraemer netted the game-winner. Stretch added his third point of the night with the insurance goal at 14:27. Derek Couture sent a centering pass from the left side across to Stretch who slipped it past Stewart. Ontario wasn’t done there. Dan DaSilva brought the puck across the blue line and sent a shot through the Condors’ defense and into an empty net for the final goal of the game.
